47 We’re pleased to announce the opening of Tokyo Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Arts Fest 2020. The Faculty of Arts at Tokyo Polytechnic University conducts education and research specializing in media arts, centered on the fields of photography, imaging art, design, interactive media, animation, manga, game, and liberal arts. This 7th Faculty of Arts Fest is an attempt to spread the results of Faculty of Arts’ members’ day-to-day research far and wide throughout society. This year’s theme, “surprising (odoroku) art, roaring (todoroku) art”, was conceived from the newly-established Building No. 6, as “roku” is “six” in Japanese. We intend to pool our energy in a more fulfilling environment for education and research, and build up the Nakano Campus as a new base for media arts. Unfortunately, this year’s event will be held in a limited format in order to prevent spread of novel coronavirus infections. However, not cancelling the event is also a sign of our determination to not stop our research and creative pace for even a day. Unlike past years, there will be many cases in which you can view certain work only on the Internet or in this catalogue. We would like to receive commentary from as many people as possible, and we sincerely hope that the announcement of this particular year will carry on a baton of certainty for the future of our tradition-rich Faculty of Arts.
