Development progressed since the discovery of coal beds in the early Meiji period, resulting in rapid advancement. With the industrialization of coal mining, it became a town where many people lived and was quite prosperous, but it eventually became a depopulated area due to the decline and withdrawal of the coal industry. Now, some lot numbers and postal codes are being discontinued and are disappearing. This place, far from human hands, is returning to nature, dominated by horseflies and brown bears.
