According to Jacques RANCIÈRE, particularly in his phi losophy of Le Partage Du Sensible , art can have three natures. The first of these is directly recreating the meaning and significance inherent in a subject, which is shared between the artist and the audience. The second is that of indirectly suggesting a particular meaning and significance through the subject, which is shared between the artist and audience. And the third is of temporari ly inval idating a particular meaning and significance that the audience associates with the subject. Just l ike RANCIÈRE, I indeed feel this third nature of art. It suggests that our judgment when we look at a subject is, in the end, merely temporary sentimental and political judgment that is connected to the various meaning and significance shared in a society. The title of this work, Apparition , is drawn from the final, unfinished thesis by Theodor W ADORNO: Aesthetic Theory . It is clear that ADORNO, who once aspired to become a musician and wrote the Dialectic of Enl ightenment , continued to be interested in art due to the influence of this third nature.
