94 FESTA-20 Poster session Department of Design TAKASHIRO Hikari The ultimate goal of this study is to design a typeface based on ‘state bronze script’, in particular the bronze script of the ancient state of Cài, as well as to verbalize the design process. State bronze script is a general term for the styles of bronze script that diversified through various parts of the Chinese mainland after the period of the Spring and Autumn Warring States. Typical samples of bronze script were circulated as stone rubbings. In order to reproduce the characteristics of the original shapes of the characters as part of a typeface, it is necessary to interpret the forms seen in the materials and to edit or reconstruct their features. In this study, I am attempting to verbalize this process as much as possible, and to clarify the relationship between the characteristics and shapes in the typeface. This publication, a continuation of last year’s research, is based on tracings of characters that appeared on a wine vessel and platter belonging to a marquis of Cài. Tidying up of the parts and details necessary for their stylization has been conducted.
